Overview:
The Assistant Packhouse Manager will support the Packhouse Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the packhouse, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of activities to meet production targets and quality standards. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage the workforce, ensure compliance with export requirements, and enhance overall productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Support:
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing daily production plans to meet targets.
- Ensure raw materials and packaging are prepared and available for daily operations.
- Monitor and support the team to meet quality, volume, and cost efficiency goals.
Team Management and Training:
- Supervise casual workers during shifts, providing direction, feedback, and performance improvements.
- Support training initiatives to develop employees’ skills in quality output and consistency.
- Assist in building a positive and productive team environment.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Support quality checks to ensure compliance with export standards and food safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate traceability records for production and rework, ensuring process compliance.
Reporting and Communication:
- Assist in preparing and consolidating reports, including supply, KPIs, budgets, and inventory.
- Communicate updates on anticipated and achieved export quantities to the commercial team.
- Support verification of invoices and packing lists for accuracy before dispatch.
Packhouse Operations and Maintenance:
- Ensure the packhouse and equipment are maintained to food safety standards.
- Assist in identifying areas for improvement in efficiency, productivity, and cold chain management.
- Monitor and record waste management to ensure accurate reporting and timely removal.
Inventory and Materials Management:
- Regularly review and manage box inventory to ensure accurate tracking.
- Assist in maintaining inventory records for packhouse materials and supplies.
Support to the Packhouse Manager:
- Act as a liaison between the Packhouse Manager and the operational team, ensuring alignment.
- Provide input and assistance in the implementation of best practices and continuous improvement strategies.
- Step into leadership responsibilities during the Packhouse Manager’s absence, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
- Bachelor/Diploma in Food Science, Food Processing, Food Biotechnolog, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Managerial experience at least 5 years in relevant work environment
- Knowledge of quality standards for produce, food processes, food laws, and cold chain management.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent command of computer: Word, excel.
- Previous managerial or supervisory experience is an added advantage.
