As part of the GIZ-supported initiative “Enhancing Collaboration, Women Participation, and Sustainability in Rwanda’s Tourism Sector,” the Rwanda Chamber of Tourism is inviting interested women-led tourism businesses, tour guides, and restaurants to join a special program aimed at supporting their compliance with tourism regulations set by RDB.
About the Project: This project, in collaboration with GIZ, aims to increase women’s participation and leadership in the tourism sector by providing targeted support to women-led businesses. It focuses on empowering women entrepreneurs through training, regulatory compliance assistance, and networking opportunities. The project also seeks to enhance collaboration between the tourism and other sectors, contributing to the overall sustainability and growth of Rwanda’s tourism industry.
Purpose: This program is designed to help women entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, including tour guides and restaurant owners, align their businesses with the licensing and regulatory requirements under the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). The Chamber will provide guidance and resources to facilitate the licensing process and ensure these businesses are positioned to benefit from industry opportunities and incentives.
Eligibility Criteria:
Women-Led Businesses: Companies and tour guides must be at least 51% owned and managed by women.
Tourism Sector Focus: Eligible entities include those operating within the tourism sector, such as accommodations, travel agencies, tour operations, restaurants, and community tourism initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance Potential: Businesses should have the capacity and intent to meet the requirements outlined by RDB for licensing under the current tourism law and regulations.
Commitment to Growth: Applicants should demonstrate a clear vision for growth and development within the tourism sector.
Support Offered:
Guidance on Licensing Requirements: Assistance in understanding and meeting the necessary legal and regulatory standards for operating a tourism business, tour guiding service, or restaurant in Rwanda.
Training and Resources: Access to training sessions and materials to help align business operations with industry standards.
Networking Opportunities: Inclusion in forums and events to connect with other stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Business Advisory Services: One-on-one consultations to address specific challenges and opportunities for growth.
How to Apply: Interested businesses, tour guides, and restaurants are invited to submit an expression of interest, including a brief profile of their company or service and a statement of intent detailing how they plan to adhere to the tourism regulations and grow within the sector. Applications should be sent to info@rwandatourismchamber.org by 15th of November 2024.
Next Steps: Selected participants will be contacted for an initial assessment meeting and enrolled in the program, which will include workshops, mentorship, and direct support in completing the licensing process.
