  1. Background

Data Management and analysis: A Critical Intersection

In today’s data-driven world, the ability to effectively manage and leverage data is a cornerstone of successful decision-making across various disciplines and sectors. From healthcare and finance to education and research, the potential benefits of data-driven insights are immense. However, harnessing these benefits requires a deep understanding of data management principles and a practical application.

In this regard DATA+ Rwanda in partnership with New Amsterdam consult partnered to provide an intra- sector tailored professional training to equip participants with essential data management and analysis skills, with a focus on practical applications. The program will provide a comprehensive overview of data management principles, followed by in-depth training on questionnaire programming using KoboToolbox, and data analysis using STATA.

By participating in this training, you will gain a competitive edge, enhance your project and business management capabilities, and position yourself as a valuable asset to your organization.

  1. Objectives of the training

This professional training aims to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to:

  • Master the fundamentals of data management: Understand key concepts, best practices, and challenges in data collection, storage, and analysis.
  • Become proficient in questionnaire programming: Develop and deploy effective questionnaires using the KOBO toolbox, a popular open-source tool for data collection.
  • Gain expertise in data analysis: Utilize STATA, a powerful statistical software package, to analyze and interpret data effectively.
  • Complete a practical capstone project: Apply the acquired skills to a real-world data management challenge and demonstrate proficiency.
  1. Training Methodology

The training will employ a practical, hands-on approach, combining theoretical knowledge with real-world case studies and exercises. Participants will have ample opportunities to apply their learning through sectorial group work and interactive sessions. The lead trainer will be facilitated by a number of co-facilitators to help smooth learning of each participant.

NOTE:Certificates of merit will be issued to participants after successfully working on exercises and final capstone project assignments provided after the training. Both Physical and virtual participation options will be available

The training will take place at UR-CBE Gikondo Campus on October 12th to 20th. 2024. Weekend program. Time: 08:45 AM to 17:00 PM

Day 1-2: Introduction to Data Management and KoboToolbox

  • Data concepts, types, and quality
  • Introduction to KoboToolbox
  • Programming and customizing survey forms
  • Deploying surveys and collecting data

Day 3-4: Data Analysis with STATA

  • Introduction to STATA
  • Data cleaning and preparation
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Inferential statistics
  • Data visualization
  1. Expected Outcomes

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply fundamental data management principles.
  • Create and manage questionnaires using KoboToolbox.
  • Analyze data effectively using STATA.
  • Solve real-world data management and analysis problems.
  • Contribute to data-driven decision-making in their respective fields.
