The first AIMS centre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and 2 Centres in Rwanda.
Each AIMS Centre provides expertly tailored academic and non-academic programs, training around 60 African students per master program each year and preparing them for leadership in the domains of academia, government and industry. Gender & Inclusion Manager, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at AIMS!
Based at the AIMS Research and Innovation Centre (AIMS RIC) and reporting to the Centre President, the Gender and Inclusion Manager will spearhead efforts to promote gender equality and inclusion within the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at AIMS. In this role, you will work in close collaboration with the Director of Programs Delivery and Reporting to develop and implement strategies to ensure equitable access to high-quality education and professional opportunities for women, refugees, displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities. You will cooperate closely with programs and academic staff, partners, and students to cultivate an inclusive learning environment and achieve the program’s diversity and inclusion goals.
As a career ambassador for all that Gender & Inclusion stands for, you will develop and implement a comprehensive gender and inclusion strategy for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at AIMS, ensuring alignment with AIMS’ commitment to gender equality and inclusion and you will also put in place initiatives that promote the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented groups, including women, refugees, displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities. Moreover, you will provide individualized support to students from underrepresented groups to ensure they have access to all the resources they need to succeed while at AIMS and beyond.
As an adept facilitator with an experienced yet innovative approach to building and growing capacity you will organize and inclusion training as well as capacity-building workshops for staff, researchers, faculty, and scholars to raise awareness about gender equity and inclusion. Additionally, you will develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the effectiveness of gender and inclusion initiatives
This is a full-time contract opportunity based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Do you have what we need?
- Master’s degree in gender studies, sociology, international development, social sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in gender equity, social inclusion, or diversity management, preferably in educational or non-profit organizations.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing gender and inclusion strategies.
- Strong knowledge of issues related to gender equality, disability inclusion, and refugee support, particularly in the African context.
- Excellent communication, advocacy, project management skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English is essential; Working knowledge of the French language is a plus.
- Commitment to the mission and values of AIMS.
- Experience engaging diverse stakeholders and building sustainable partnerships.
