Junior Associate | Corporate Commercial l Rwanda

An opportunity has become available for a Trainee/Junior Associate to join the Corporate Commercial Department of ENS Rwanda.

The role will involve drafting commercial agreements, taking instructions, and providing opinions on corporate-related matters including mergers and acquisitions, shareholders arrangements, corporate governance and tax advisory. The successful candidate will be expected to assume responsibility for working closely with Senior Associates as well as a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take and clarify instructions from seniors and deliver increasingly complex work accordingly.
  • Draft agreements, corporate documents, letters of advice, advisory emails, and file notes for review by seniors.
  • Research and report points of law, market information, and client issues, and apply directly to own assignments.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and provide accurate legal analyses and advice for current transactions.
  • Analyse and interpret laws, rulings, regulations, and judicial precedent with the probable commercial outcomes for clients.
  • Advise clients on their business transactions, liability for claims, legal rights, and legal obligations.
  • Complete and deliver assignments to supervisors, and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Represent clients at government agencies.
  • Respect confidentiality at all times.
  • Attend independently to smaller matters and aspects of larger matters.
  • Assist senior team members on larger matters.
  • Open and manage transaction files (hard and soft copy) and ensure that all documents relating to transactions are properly filed.
  • Comply with all transaction management and billing protocols including opening new clients or matters and recording time

Client Relationship Management

  • Draft an engagement letter for each new transaction.
  • Keep (internal and external) clients informed on the status of assignments, proactively offer solutions, and meet deadlines.
  • Be on call for clients and provide ongoing accessibility.
  • Liaise with third parties on behalf of the client.

Requirement :

  • Admitted Attorney with a strong academic record.
  • A minimum of at least 1-year experience (or completed Traineeship)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good drafting skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Keen interest in financial services legislation
  • Willingness to read/keep up with regulatory developments
  • Capacity for hard work, long hours, and quick turnaround times

This is a demanding but stimulating position which will require working outside of normal office hours, when necessary. In addition, the candidate must be ambitious, achievement-oriented, focused and able to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, without compromising work quality or standards.
