The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation is currently at its beginning stage following an action plan that was approved by the hospital in October, 2020.Within the health domain, the Foundation’s major objectives will be to support researchers through funding, training and facilitation in dissemination of research data, establishing strategic relationships with academic, research-driven and research sponsoring institutions and supporting training for medical researchers.As part of a social welfare that constitutes an integral part of the foundation, the hospital will financially assist patients who cannot afford medical care and will continue to sensitize the public on NCDs, congenital and surgical diseases for prevention and early consultation.Furthermore, the foundation will support surgical camps/outreach within the country in a bid to reduce long waiting lists in teaching hospitals. Finally, within the education domain, the foundation will be promoting new learning tools including e-learning and support Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Call for Applications: Midwifery Faculty for Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU)
Position Overview
On 2 September 2024, King Faisal Hospital Rwanda (KFHR) launched a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Midwifery program at the new Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU). The four-year Midwifery program is competency-based, aligned with the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) standards, and developed to strengthen capacity in education, training, and research in Rwanda. Our second cohort of students recently entered the program, and KFHR is seeking highly qualified academic faculty to join the Midwifery team. The faculty are based at the AHSU campus in Kacyiru and attend clinical practice with students in healthcare facilities in Kigali. We are actively seeking qualified, experienced individuals passionate about contributing to the education of Midwifery students.
Contract Duration: Two years with the possibility of renewal.
Location: AHSU campus in Kacyiru, local health centers, and district and referral hospitals in Kigali, Rwanda
Reports to: Chair of the Department
Roles and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Clinical Supervision
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based lectures, seminars, and practical sessions to undergraduate students in an interactive learning environment.
- Provide effective feedback to ensure that the assessment methods accurately and reliably evaluate the students’ midwifery competencies.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, fostering positive, ethical, and professional behavior.
- Supervise and mentor students during clinical rotations, ensuring the application of theoretical knowledge in practical settings, including day, evening, and night shifts in hospitals.
- Update curriculum content as needed to align with evidence-based practice.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate and enhance students’ clinical experiences.
Research
- Engage in research activities within midwifery and other related health fields, contributing to the institution’s scholarly output.
- Encourage and support students in research and evidence-based practice projects, fostering a culture of inquiry and academic curiosity.
Other Activities
- Participate in relevant committees, meetings, and institutional initiatives to contribute to the overall development and governance of the institution.
- Collaborate with other faculty members and administrative staff to ensure the smooth functioning of academic programs.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in midwifery or equivalent
- Current faculty appointment with a reputable institution in Midwifery
- Have full country-of-training Nursing and Midwifery Council registration with a license to practice required
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a practicing midwife, lecturer, mentor, and researcher
- Demonstrated teaching, research, and clinical experience
- Demonstrated experience in Midwifery competencies and students’ assessments
- Strong commitment to academic excellence and student mentorship
- Fluency in oral and written English
- Demonstrated research output and curriculum development preferred
