Project/Program: From Correctional Facilities to the Communities Project: Empowering the Social Rehabilitation & Reintegration Process of Current and Former Released Inmates in Rwanda
Position: Project Field Officer (2)
Duty Station: Coordinating activities in some of the following Correctional Facilities: Nyamagabe, Rusizi, Huye, Muhanga, Musanze, Gicumbi, Ngoma, Bugesera.

Background
Prison Fellowship Rwanda (PFR) is a non-profit organization that works with the Government of Rwanda and both local and international partners to foster peacebuilding, unity, reconciliation, mental health and psychosocial support, access to justice, crime prevention, human rights promotion, and socio-economic empowerment of vulnerable people in Rwanda in the wake of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and its aftermath.
PFR envisions a society where unity, peace, and justice prevail and has a mission to contribute to the social transformation of vulnerable communities through interventions in peacebuilding, livelihoods, justice, psychosocial, and spiritual resilience.
The Episcopal Commission for Justice & Peace (CEJP Rwanda) is the technical arm of the Rwandan Catholic Bishops’ Conference responsible for issues related to peace, justice, social cohesion, and reconciliation. CEJP Rwanda is committed to promoting justice, building peace, and fostering sustainable development in light of faith and the Social Teaching of the Catholic Church. Under the partnership with Hoffnung Trager Global Impact/German, Prison Fellowship Rwanda, in partnership with CEJP Rwanda, will implement the project “From Correctional Facilities to Communities. The main purpose of the project is to provide Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) through a socio-therapy approach to inmates and to facilitate connections between inmates (including those convicted for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and common law cases) and their families, as well as preparing them to embrace a new life after their release.
To support this project, Prison Fellowship Rwanda is hiring Project Field Officers to execute field-level activities, including supporting project implementation, monitoring progress, facilitating community engagement, and ensuring timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Activity Implementation
- Coordinate with correctional facility authorities, local leaders, and community structures to ensure smooth implementation.
- Mobilize participants for sociotherapy sessions and maintain active engagement throughout the process.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and healing spaces in correctional facilities.
- Support socio-therapists during clinical supervision and awareness campaigns.
- Organize family visits and reconciliation dialogues in collaboration with Correction facility officials.
Assist in planning and executing reintegration ceremonies and vocational training sessions.
Community Engagement
- Mobilize families, 1994 genocide against Tutsi survivors, and community members for dialogues and Community events.
- Act as liaison between inmates, families, and community stakeholders.
Monitoring & Data Collection
- Collect attendance records, feedback, and other data for project indicators.
- Report on progress, challenges, and success stories to the Project Coordinator.
- Regular monitoring of socio-therapy groups.
- To monitor and evaluate community-healing spaces using standardized assessment tools.
Logistical Support
- Ensure proper use of project resources and compliance with organizational policies
- Assist in organizing meetings, trainings, and community dialogues related to the project
- Arrange venues, materials, and refreshments for dialogues and ceremonies.
- Ensure proper distribution of starter kits and financial support to beneficiaries.
Required Qualifications and Competences

- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field from a recognized university.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable groups, including inmates and marginalized communities.
Evidence of continuous professional growth through relevant courses such as Psychological Assessment, Psychological First Aid, Clinical Supervision, etc.
- Strong ability to conduct psychological assessments using standardized tools.
- Competence in organizing and facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
- Proven capacity to deliver psychosocial support services using a community-based approach.
- Ability to organize and conduct trainings and community awareness campaigns on mental health and psychosocial issues.
- Ability to write clear, comprehensive activity reports.
- Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills, including the ability to simplify complex tasks and move projects forward effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
