TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR RECRUITING A FOOD SAFETY SPECIALIST TO DELIVER TRAINING AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO 4 COOPERATIVES IN FRENCH BEANS AND STRAWBERRY VALUE CHAINS
Background
Women for Women Rwanda (WfW-Rwanda) is a national NGO dedicated to supporting women and girls in Rwanda to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion. The organization empowers women to become socially and economically capable of leading their communities toward better health, education, and overall conditions.
In partnership with GIZ, WfW-Rwanda is implementing an 18-month initiative, titled “Strengthening Women-led Cooperatives in Rwanda.” This project aims to enhance the competitiveness and income-generating capacity of women-led cooperatives engaged in diverse value chains, including leather product manufacturing, tailoring, French bean cultivation, and strawberry farming. The project targets cooperatives in Gasabo and Nyaruguru districts.
WfW-Rwanda is seeking a Food safety specialist to provide specialized training and technical support to 4 cooperatives in French beans and strawberry value chains

Expected Deliverables/Responsibilities
The Consultant is expected to:
provide basic knowledge in food safety, including:
- Introduction to Food Safety and Regulatory Framework.
- Food Contamination, Hazards, and Risk Management.
- Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) System Progress assessment and certification processes.
- Food Safety in Market Linkages and Consumer Awareness.
- Provide practical sessions: Use and maintenance of advanced processing machines
- Assess women’s progress and provide monthly reports
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
